First Reconciliation

Children who are at least 7 years old may prepare for the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Penance/Confession). Generally, children receive First Reconciliation before First Communion. Children, along with at least one parent, attend three preparation sessions where they learn about God’s loving forgiveness, how to say they are sorry and how to ask for forgiveness. Children preparing for First Reconciliation are expected to be enrolled in ongoing formation, either in a Catholic school or a parish Christian Formation program, beginning the year prior to receiving the sacrament. If your child did not receive their First Reconciliation in second grade, he/she may still prepare to receive their First Reconciliation. Contact the Director of Christian Formation for more information,

Children express their desire to receive, learn how to receive the Body and Blood of Christ in communion, and believe that the gifts of bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Christ. Children preparing for First Eucharist are expected to be enrolled in ongoing Christian Formation classes, either in a Catholic school or a parish Christian Formation program, beginning the year prior to receiving the sacrament.
