First Reconciliation/First Eucharist

 

First Reconciliation

Children who are at least 7 years old may prepare for the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Penance/Confession). Generally, children receive First Reconciliation before First Communion. Children, along with at least one parent, attend three preparation sessions where they learn about God’s loving forgiveness, how to say they are sorry and how to ask for forgiveness. Children preparing for First Reconciliation are expected to be enrolled in ongoing formation, either in a Catholic school or a parish Christian Formation program, beginning the year prior to receiving the sacrament. If your child did not receive their First Reconciliation in second grade, he/she may still prepare to receive their First Reconciliation.First Reconciliation Preparations consists of three parent/child sessions, one kid's only retreat, and one group Mass and sharing session with the catechist. To register for First Reconciliation Preparation, print out, complete, and return the registration form below to the Christian Formation Office, St. Catherine of Alexandria Parish, 8661 N. 76th Place, Milwaukee, WI, 53223. If you are registering your child for both First Eucharist and First Eucharist, you only need to complete one registration form.

First Eucharist

First Eucharist (First Communion),is typically celebrated in second grade, or when a child has reached the age of 7 years. First Eucharist preparation consists of three parent and child sessions which meet on Saturday mornings for 1 hour. Children express their desire to receive, learn how to receive the Body and Blood of Christ in communion, and believe that the gifts of bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Christ. Children preparing for First Eucharist are expected to be enrolled in ongoing Christian Formation classes, either in a Catholic school or a parish Christian Formation program, beginning the year prior to receiving the sacrament. If your child did not receive their First Eucharist in second grade, he/she may still prepare to receive their First Eucharist. First Eucharist Preparations consists of three parent/child sessions, one kid's only retreat, and three group Mass and sharing sessions with the catechist.
