This includes such areas as providing direction for the total education of children in the religious education programs and youth ministry. It will be a newly formed committee comprised of members from all three parishes.

Catechists and Classroom Aides

Catechists serve in a very important ministry. Along with the parents of our children, they are given the task of promoting knowledge of the faith. They help our children encounter Christ at an age-appropriate level, through teaching knowledge of the traditions and scripture of the Catholic Church. Catechists and their aides live their faith and show by example how to be true disciples of Christ. This ministry is open to all adults of the parish. Experience is helpful but not necessary. We will guide, educate and support you in your endeavor. In addition, because this is a ministry in which one works with children, the completion of a short sexual abuse awareness training session on protecting God’s children is required by the Archdiocese.

Grade School Catechists/Aides (High school students are welcome to serve as aides.)
Time Commitment: Wednesday evenings from 6-7:15 p.m. There are approximately 24 sessions during the year.

Chaperones

A chaperone is an adult leader who accompanies high school students for their outings ranging from service experiences to retreats. A chaperone at a retreat also serves as small group leader. For other outings such as a service experience, chaperones help to provide transportation for the students. To be a chaperone you must be at least 21 years of age. For all outings as a group, a chaperone is a must. Chaperones are briefed before the event takes place. Like catechists and aides, chaperones need to attend sexual abuse awareness training as required by the Archdiocese.

Time Commitment: Depends on the activity

R.C.I.A. Sponsors and Sponsor Families

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the process used to prepare and welcome adults and children into the Catholic faith. Sponsors are friends, companions and guides for these individuals. In the case of children being received into the church, sponsor families with children are paired with those preparing.

Time Commitment: We ask that sponsors attend Mass and sessions with their candidates as often as possible. There are also several Sundays when rites take place at Mass and a celebration at the Cathedral on the first Sunday of Lent for which the sponsors need to be present.
